Calculate Shopify product margin after COGS, shipping, and ad cost so you can spot weak SKUs before scaling spend.

Shopify Profit Margin Calculator

Estimate your true product margin after cost of goods, shipping, and ad spend.

Enter your store economics to calculate margin.

Formula used: (selling price - product cost - shipping - ad cost) ÷ selling price × 100.

Why this matters

Most Shopify stores do not lose money because the product never sells. They lose money because the product sells at a margin that cannot survive shipping, acquisition cost, and discounts.

Use this calculator before you scale a campaign, launch a discount, or reorder inventory. It gives you a SKU-level read on whether a product has enough room to pay for fulfillment and marketing without turning every order into a tiny financial crime scene.

How to use it well

Run the calculator for three real scenarios:

  • your current bestselling SKU
  • your highest ad-cost SKU
  • the product you are about to push with paid traffic

Use landed product cost, not the pretty supplier quote. Put the real shipping subsidy in the shipping field. For ad cost, use your average cost per purchase from Meta, Google, TikTok, or whatever machine is currently eating the budget.

The result is directional, not full accounting. It does not include payment fees, returns, app fees, or support cost, so treat a thin result as a warning sign, not a victory lap.

What to do with the result

If margin is strong, compare it against your acquisition economics with the ad ROAS calculator before you scale. If margin is weak, use the break-even calculator to find the price, cost, or ad spend level that stops the SKU from bleeding.

For operators, the point is not to admire the percentage. The point is to decide whether to raise price, cut fulfillment cost, reduce ad spend, bundle the item, or stop pretending volume will magically fix bad unit economics.

Run this for your top five revenue SKUs, then check the weakest one with the break-even calculator before changing ad budgets. One bad SKU can make the whole store look haunted.

Routing Context

This tool sits inside the broader utility workflow. Use the result as a checkpoint, then compare it with the surrounding guides and calculators before making the next change.
